Centa-Star – modern and innovative

Since the day it was founded in 1968, Centa-Star has regularly reinvented the duvet. In the 1970s, at a time of thick and heavy down duvets, Centa-Star's home-washable fibre duvets were a sensation. Later, Centa-Star incorporated functional fibres from the aerospace and outdoor sectors into the duvet. For a long time, the square corner and longitudinal quilting were the typical distinguishing features of Centa-Star duvets. Management changes in the company and Group

There will be a change of management at Centa-Star at the turn of the year 2025/26: Managing Director Thomas Müller is retiring after many successful years. He will be succeeded from January 2026 by Markus Ertel, an experienced industry expert with a deep understanding of the market and brand. There will also be a change in the management of Herbert Neumeyer Holding: Carl-Christoph Held will hand over the chairmanship of the entire group to Dr. Henning Dammer in autumn 2025. New from Centa-Star: The Hydro Booster Pillow

With the new Hydro Booster Pillow, Centa-Star presents a product innovation that combines sleeping comfort and skin care in a unique way. Developed with an innovative hyaluronic textile technology, the pillow supports the moisturization and regeneration of the skin during sleep. The history of the company

We have been writing success stories in Stuttgart Untertürkheim for over five decades – as a pioneer in fibre technology and a trailblazer for modern bedding. With every innovation we make a lasting mark on the market. Our history is the driving force behind our future.

1968

Nord Feder GmbH u. Co. KG Wohntextilien is founded as a subsidiary of Nordisk Fjerfabrik A/S Copenhagen with headquarters in Stuttgart. In the same year, the Centa-Star brand is registered, bedding with synthetic fiber fillings is introduced and continuous filament fibers are developed in collaboration with Trevira.

1969

A customer from the very beginning: the specialist bed store C. F. Braun, Stuttgart.

1972

Nordisk Fjerfabrik A/S Copenhagen becomes a partner in Mannheimer Bettfedernfabrik Kauffmann GmbH & Co. in Mannheim.

1976

First sales area in KaDeWe – the largest department store in continental Europe with an upmarket range and luxury goods in Berlin.

1979

Move to the building at Augsburger Straße 275 in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim – still the company headquarters of Centa-Star today.

1988

Affiliation of the Mannheim bedspring factory Kauffmann und Co. by the parent company Nordisk Fjerfabrik A/S to the Stuttgart subsidiary Nord Feder GmbH u. Co KG.

1991

Collapse of Nordisk Fjerfabrik A/S Copenhagen sk and takeover by management buy-out. In the same year, Centa-Star introduced spherical fibers to the German bedding market.

1995

An advertising cooperation that pays off: Centa-Star is on everyone’s lips thanks to the advertising icon “Klementine”, which is still known throughout Germany today.

1996

Together with 3M Germany, exclusive development of a pioneering fiber technology for bedding and launch of the “Royal” product series.

2001

Centa-Star applies for a patent for the automated binding of bedding (finished automation). Also in 2001, Centa-Star develops the first advisory system for bedding in collaboration with the Hohenstein Research Institute and launches it on the market.

2002

Introduction of the new and innovative “shop-in-shop system” area and marketing concept. Centa-Star opens up further export markets in Asia and introduces the Outlast® functional fiber from the outdoor sector to the bedding segment.

2006

Nord Feder GmbH u. Co. KG is renamed Centa-Star GmbH. Relaunch of the brand concept and expansion of the product range to include bed accessories, bathroom textiles, bed linen, homewear, decorative pillows, porcelain and accessories.

2007

Opening of the first own stores in Germany.

2009

Opening of the first stores in Holland, Austria and Switzerland.

2011

Development of the world fiber innovation CottonTex and introduction of the “Famous” product series – the best fiber bed in the world.

2012

Entry into Kaufhof with concession space based on Centa-Star’s retail experience.

2013

Takeover by Mr. Herbert Neumeyer and foundation of Centa-Star Bettwaren GmbH & Co. Development of a new concept focusing on bedding production, distribution and sales via the company’s own shop-in-shop sales areas.

2014

Development and patenting of the cushion bar: four different covers and four different cores for customers to put together their own perfect cushion. Introduction of the 48-hour delivery service.

2017

Development of the world first AllergoProtect: the solution for house dust mite allergy sufferers. European patent pending: Patent no. 17150200.8 Development and marketing of the Relax Smartpillow in cooperation with Advansa and Cityzen Siences.

2019

The new and first anatomically correctly shaped NeckProtect® neck support pillow is launched on the German market: the pillow, which supports or relieves the differently shaped neck vertebrae as required, is a further component of the Centa-Star Healthcare program with two patents in the neck.

2020

As Centa-Star not only wants to ensure the health of its customers, but also that of its own employees, it has designed an internal company health management system that offers employees tips on exercise and nutrition for their private and professional lives.

2021

With Regeneration, Centa-Star is making further inroads into the health market. The comforters and pillows are equipped with Celliant® fiber, which converts body heat into infrared radiation and reflects it back to the body to increase cell regeneration in the bloodstream.

2022

Centa-Star launches its own online store. Customers can now purchase their usual high-quality bedding directly from the manufacturer.
