Like any allergy, house dust mite allergy is nothing more than an overreaction of the immune system to contact with certain substances that are actually harmless. The body reacts with symptoms such as watery eyes, itching, sneezing or a runny nose. However, house dust allergy is not triggered by contact with house dust itself, but by a certain protein in the excretions of the house dust mite. House dust mites are found wherever people live. Their presence is therefore not generally associated with a lack of cleanliness in a home. However, their increased presence is: the more dust, the more mites.
